The Gathering of the Teachers

There is one thing you can count on when a bunch of teachers get together. Lots of noise, and none stop talking. You would think they would know how to take turns, but noooooo-- everyone wants to tell her story at once.

We were a group of eight, 2 of us retired, 1, that had left because her husband got a job in Denmark ( poor girl), and 5 still in the classroom.

You might guess that if you have been reading the newspapers in our area recently that MAP scores were on the working teachers minds. We retired ones just sat back with big smiles on our faces, knowing that we didn't have to worry about that anymore. And then the conversation got around to our new world traveler. Did you know that you could fly round trip from many European cities to another for less than we pay for a tank of gas? She has been to Spain, France, Germany, Italy, just to name a few in this last year, and many times to some of them. What a life ! But, she hopes when they return to the States, that she will teach again. When it gets in your blood, it's hard to let go.

Our group decided to go home when we witnessed long streaks of lightning heading our way. The teachers in the classrooms thankful that it was the weekend, our traveler thankful that she gets to visit more friends before she leaves the area, and the retired ones, just thankful.
